Does this Helper cover all three registration categories?
Yes, EngTech, IEng, and CEng. UK-SPEC uses the same A–E competence structure across all three but the level of evidence required differs. The Helper applies category-specific reviewer criteria depending on which you target. If you're unsure which category fits your career, Stage 0 of the workflow resolves that honestly.
What's a Further Learning Report and will I need one?
An FLR is required when your formal qualifications partially meet the AHEP learning outcomes for your category. Common scenarios: a CEng applicant with an accredited Bachelors but no accredited Masters; an IEng applicant with an HNC/HND or Foundation Degree. The Helper detects this at Stage 2 and walks you through drafting the FLR at Stage 7 if needed. (“Further Learning Report” is the term we use for this; your Licensee may call it a Technical Report or fold it into its own assessment route, the substance is the same.) Stage 7 is skipped if you don't need one (e.g. EngTech applicants with approved apprenticeships, CEng applicants with a fully-accredited MEng).
Do I need a paid AI subscription to use this?
Yes, roughly £18/month, your choice of platform.
The Helper's Project setup is content-heavy: a ~21 KB system prompt plus 14 knowledge files load on every message (tens of thousands of tokens before your question is even processed). That works fine with paid AI tiers but burns through free-tier budgets in just a few messages. We tested this directly, free Claude hits the wall after about three exchanges with the Project loaded.
You have three options at the same price point:

- ChatGPT Plus (~£18/month), works well, similar Projects feature
- Microsoft 365 Premium (~£18/month, includes Copilot Agents), if you're already in the Microsoft ecosystem
Most candidates work through their application over 6–12 weeks. If you don't already pay for one of these, you'd subscribe for 2–3 months total, around £36–54. Small fraction of the value of the registration you're applying for.
Can I use this with ChatGPT or Copilot instead of Claude?
Yes. Setup is slightly different on each platform. Included with your purchase are step-by-step written setup walkthroughs for:

- Microsoft Copilot Agents (with Microsoft 365 Premium)
The methodology and knowledge files are the same across all three. The instructions for filling out your application don't change based on which platform you choose.
Coaching responses vary slightly between platforms, Claude tends to give the most direct, less padded responses, and is the platform the methodology was tested against. ChatGPT and Copilot work well too, especially if you already use them for work. Pick whichever you're most comfortable with.
How realistic are the worked examples?
The three examples (defence-sector CEng, rail-sector IEng, manufacturing EngTech) are composites, they draw on real application patterns and the kinds of activities that successfully evidence each competence at each level, but no specific real person, organisation, or programme is depicted. They're deliberately generalised so engineers across sectors can use them as anchors.
Will this guarantee my application succeeds?
No. The Professional Review decision belongs to the relevant Licensee and its assessors. The Helper provides structure and checks, but your evidence must come from your career and remain your responsibility.
What if my application is deferred?
If a panel asks for more evidence on specific sub-competences, an FLR, or a different category, you can reuse the Helper, knowledge files and templates to revise the flagged sections. Follow the panel and Licensee instructions first.
My work is classified / commercially sensitive. Can the Helper handle that?
Yes. The Helper actively prompts for generalised language when it detects sensitive content, coaches you on describing engineering activity without disclosing restricted detail ("Platform A", "a national infrastructure programme", "a complex multi-discipline system", all standard reviewer-acceptable framings), and includes a dedicated sensitive-work section in the customer resource page.
